چکیده

René Roy was born in Québec (Canada). He holds a Canadian Research Chair in Therapeutic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of the Université du Québec à Montréal (Qc, Canada) since 2004. After is Ph. D., obtained in 1980 from the Université de Montréal in carbohydrate chemistry under Pr. Stephen Hanessian, he joined the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa (Canada) from 1980-1985. He was then professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ottawa from 19852002. He has been the recipient of the 2003 Melville L. Wolfrom Award from the ACS Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry for his contributions in the design of vaccines and glycodendrimers. He has published over 300 publications and has contributed to the development of two commercial carbohydrate-based vaccines. His actual interests are in multivalent carbohydrate protein interactions and in nanomedicines.

Onion-like glycodendrimersomes from sequence-defined Janus glycodendrimers and influence of architecture on reactivity to a lectin.

A library of eight amphiphilic Janus glycodendrimers (GDs) with d-mannose (Man) headgroups, a known routing signal for lectin-mediated transport processes, was constructed via an iterative modular methodology. Sequence-defined variations of the Janus GD modulate the surface density and sequence of Man after self-assembly into multilamellar glycodendrimersomes (GDSs). The spatial mode of Man pre...

Glycodendrimers: tools to explore multivalent galectin-1 interactions

Four generations of lactose-functionalized polyamidoamine (PAMAM) were employed to further the understanding of multivalent galectin-1 mediated interactions. Dynamic light scattering and fluorescence microscopy were used to study the multivalent interaction of galectin-1 with the glycodendrimers in solution, and glycodendrimers were observed to organize galectin-1 into nanoparticles. In the pre...

Glycodendrimers and Modified ELISAs: Tools to Elucidate Multivalent Interactions of Galectins 1 and 3

Multivalent protein-carbohydrate interactions that are mediated by sugar-binding proteins, i.e., lectins, have been implicated in a myriad of intercellular recognition processes associated with tumor progression such as galectin-mediated cancer cellular migration/metastatic processes. Here, using a modified ELISA, we show that glycodendrimers bearing mixtures of galactosides, lactosides, and N-...

Wafer-scale fabrication of nanoapertures using corner lithography.

Several submicron probe technologies require the use of apertures to serve as electrical, optical or fluidic probes; for example, writing precisely using an atomic force microscope or near-field sensing of light reflecting from a biological surface. Controlling the size of such apertures below 100 nm is a challenge in fabrication. One way to accomplish this scale is to use high resolution tools...

Protein Nanoparticle as a Versatile Drug Delivery System in Nanotechnology

Protein nanoparticles are extensively investigated as versatile drug delivery systems, due to their nanoscale size, container-like shape, natural source, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. They provide three distinct interfaces: internal, external, and inter-subunit interfaces for modifications. Chemistry and genetic engineering provide powerful tools to functionalize protein nanoparticles...
